Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one titles have been won on hard surfaces

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his first trophy for 882 days with victory over opponent Moutet in the competition title decider.

Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has had a torrid season, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.

The player's varied form on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serving in especial - caused him exiting of the top ten and ultimately parting ways with long-term coach his previous coach.

Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over challenger Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden trophy since the Rome competition and first on a hard court since spring of the previous year.

The win also signifies Medvedev has achieved 21 championships at twenty-one various events.

"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my both daughters at once, so to win a championship is really nice," said ranked player Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six finals, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.

His retrieving approach and frequent reactions on court had led observers to question if his skill to compete at the elite level was over.

However the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, making an effort to come to the net and perform positively, supported by an enhanced serving game.

He came back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky Moutet, winning four of the concluding five points to gain the advantage.

Both players traded breaks in the middle set before the challenger, striving for his initial tour championship, gained dominance to force a final set.

The opponent saved four initial opportunities in a competitive final set before the Russian won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched victory with a point at the net, with Moutet failing to control a volley after over two and a half hours.
